a dilemma...

this quite possible could be considered a slight rant..... maybe.

so the past few days good ol' socal has been getting buckets of water dumped down upon it. watching it come down has made me think of the old days when my brother, the neighborhood kids & i would go play in the rain and ginormous gutters that formed on our street. They were so big on my side of the street that we had to have mom drive us across the street to play. We came up with all sorts of ingenious ways to try to get across the river that was our gutter, but to no avail. we would put our feet in buckets and try to wade across, but either the water would just come right in the buckets or our feet would float and we'd fall in. we tried putting 2x4s as bridges and walking across those, but they would begin to float away. the only solution was the car. we would have races with sticks and leaves down the whole street. we always said how we wanted to boogie board down them, but no one ever did... that i recall. we had lots of fun in those rivers. and on that street. those were fun days. but i digress.... watching the rain form puddles in the driveway made me want to go take S out for some puddle jumping & splashing. the problem? she didn't have the proper attire. no rain boots. she had nothing to keep her feet from getting cold, wet & numb. so i thought, i'll go buy her some boots. i went to target... target has never failed me. i love target.... i was devastated to find no boots at target... payless was next... nothing. walmart, another payless AND another target.... nothing! I was told you can check availability of the the boots online at target.com and to my absolute joy of joys i saw that the target two cities over had boots IN STOCK!!! so today, in the rain, i ventured out to this beloved target to pick my little darling up a pair of boots. i happily walked my way back to the shoe department and from around the corner i saw where the boots where. i came the rest of the way around the corner and my heart sunk.... there was one pair....ONE!! [nice "availability" target!] it was not her size. i was crushed. i asked an employee why there were no rain boots when the website stated they had a fair amount available. she told me they had lots this morning, but they all sold out. at this point i was so tired of boot hunting. but i thought i'd make one last stop at kohls. i'm not a fan of kohls but i thought i'd try. now you may be thinking, "i know how this story is going to end. she will find the boots at the store she dislikes when her beloved target couldn't pull through. " but you're wrong. kohls didn't have any boots. everyone is bootless!!!!! so i reluctantly went online where boots cost $30 and you have to wait 5-9 business days to receive them. this is a pain because in socal the weather could be back to 90ยบ in 5-9 business days! but i found some that i thought were adorable enough for my girlie and i ordered them. so in 5-9 business days, rain or shine, S will be wearing these. [if there are no puddles i will get a hose and make my own]

i don't think we have a Fred Meyer around here. ya know, the whole time i was thinking how i KNEW oregon would have boots! ugh. and kat, i most definitely will be doing that from now on. the part that i'm so mad at myself about is that on 3 separate occasions i had her try the boots on at target but then said, ohh i'll wait to get them... stupid self.

Even here in Oregon you have can have trouble finding boots (thanks for the tip on Fred Meyer though, C&J) I like to get plain old black boots for my kids so they can be passed from girl to boy as they out grow. I checked Walmart- very little selection. I finally caved and bought some for A. and M. at Wilco but they are pink and Z. won't be able to wear them. :(

That's funny, I remember you and Sara telling me about the street puddle, lol! I wish I could race boats down the gutters!!! I'm glad you finally found her some boots, those are so posh and cute! :)
