our halloween!

We decided to decorate our pumpkins this year instead of carving.
It was fun doing something different!

halloween

We had a lot of pre-Halloween fun this year. We carved pumpkins. S still won't touch the guts and of course is too young to use the cutting tools so she pretty much just tells us what she wants carved. :)
[gma & gpa's, S & Daddy's, and mine]

We went to Oak Glen to pick apples. While up there the weather couldn't seem to make up its mind. It would go from hot to cold in a matter of minutes. Very strange. But we had fun trying all different kinds of apples and getting lots to bring home.

For Halloween we fell down the rabbit hole into Wonderland. We dressed up like Alice, The Queen of Hearts & the Mad Hatter. S loved being Alice and wanted to wear her costume as much as she could. When we went out Trick or Treating after 10-15 houses she decided she had enough candy and we called it a night. I was a little bummed. I was looking forward to more treats. :)

You can't really tell in the picture, but my red lipstick is in the shape of a heart on my lips. That was my favorite part of my costume. :)

Halloween Treats...

I found this spooky treat on the Kraft website.

Prep Time:
10 min
Total Time:
1 hr 10 min
Makes:
4 servings

1 square BAKER'S Semi-Sweet Chocolate
2 cups cold milk
6 drops green food coloring
1 pkg. (4-serving size) JELL-O Vanilla Flavor Instant Pudding
8 OREO Chocolate Sandwich Cookies, crushed

MELT chocolate in microwave as directed on package. Use a clean small paint brush to paint a monster face on the inside of each of four clear 5-oz. plastic cups with the melted chocolate. Refrigerate until ready to use.

ADD milk and food coloring to dry pudding mix in medium bowl. Beat with wire whisk 2 min. or until well blended. Immediately pour into prepared cups.

TOP with the cookie crumbs. Refrigerate at least 1 hour before serving. Store any leftover desserts in refrigerator.

A SUGGESTED VARIATION FOR THE GREEN FOOD COLORING IS TO USE PISTASHIO PUDDING.

add ons...

I took some more pics of Scarlette in her costume and these arn't so sad looking as the previous posts. Today as she was crawling around the family room she would stop and rub her hand on the carpet everyonce in a while. It was like she was stamping her hooves. It was hilarious. I hope i can get a video if she does it again.

trick or treat...

For Scarlette's first Halloween she is dressing up like a zebra!! When we first put her in it she didn't like it. She cried. Grandma says she wanted to be a giraffe, not a zebra. But after a while she warmed up to the idea. Isn't she adorable! We're going to John's dad's house tonight to go trick-or-treating. :) It's going to be lots of fun!

ps... I know I said that we were going to carve another pumpkin, but we got lazy... I know how disappointed you all must be. You were probably so eagerly awaiting what my next one would look like. I'm very sorry.

pumpkin carving: take one

I say take one, because we only carved one pumpkin and we're going to carve more. We would have waited a little closer to Halloween so the jack-o-lantern is fresh for the night, but John wanted pumpkin seeds, so we did one a little earlier.

Scarlette didnt like the pumpkin "guts"

she preferred eating the pumpkin

john's contribution to the pumpkin carving

the finished product. i'm going to the the jack-o-lantern later... this time i wanted the stars. i've always wanted to do one like this, but never did.
